With Leslau (LS 294), probably to be compared to Arb. ˁbr ‘to shed tears; to grieve, to mourn, to be sorrowful, unhappy’. Cf. also Mhr. ˀāberēt ‘desire to weep, lump in the throat’, Jib. ˁabrέt ‘a lump in throat, desire to weep’.
