etymology
Etymologically obscure. Leslau’s comparison to Arb. taˀaṭṭumu l-layli ‘darkness of the night’ suggested in LS 71 cannot be accepted for phonological reasons. Cf. perhaps Arb. ˀaḍam- ‘anger’, with an unusual, but conceivable semantic development.
