Barley was prepared and cooked until well-done. Now, I had one woman sitting beside me who was craving special food because she was pregnant. She begged me to fetch her a bowl of food. But I said: “Wait! It hasn’t yet been served. As soon as it is, I’ll fetch you a bowl.” When the women scooped the rice into the bowls, I fetched her one. The woman ate, then she said: “This really is a meager portion of barley you’ve brought me.” I said: “You have not uttered bismilla, I believe, and so the Devil has been sharing this meal with you.” Then I put more into her bowl and said: “Say bismilla!” She said bismilla rahman rahim and ate’ (CSOL III 14:41)
