Unlike continental MSA, which preserve the reflex of PS *mā̆y- as a basic word for ‘water’, in Soqotri it was replaced by this lexeme that goes back to PWS *rwy ‘to be abundant (water); to drink abundantly’ (Kogan 2015:37).
