The verb is ambitransitive. For its transitive employment cf. example 1. For the intransitive employment see example 2.
Thanks to Miranda Morris, we know that the verb was also used in a specific meaning related to the former circumcision ceremony, namely ‘to grasp the hand of the young man just circumcised and pull him forcibly from the circumcision seat’ (Morris 2022:310)
