etymology

The origin of Proto-MSA *ḥanṣ̂ab-at- ‘bead’ is unknown. Contra Leslau (LS 183), certainly unrelated to PS *ḫṣb ‘to cut’ (DUL 406). Note Tgr. ḥendebbät ‘a sort of ear-ring’ as well as Akk. anṣabtu ‘earring’.
