etymology
Among the cognates within MSA is Jib. fúdún ‘rock, stone’ (JL 51). Leslau’s comparison with Akk. padānu ‘road’ (CAD P 2) is semantically difficult in spite of the cross-linguistic evidence for the semantic relationship between the two concepts (Huehnergard 1991a:693). Perhaps more appealing is Arb. fand- ‘a great mountain’ (Lane 2448), with methathesis (Kogan 2015:594).
