etymology

To be compared to Mhr. γellēt ‘mist’, Jib. γíẑẑɔt ‘mist’. Further parallels uncertain (Kogan 2015:555). The underlying *γ in Soqotri is assured by the Western forms with γ (Morris–Watson 2019:99).
