этимология

Directly comparable, with a transparent semantic shift, to Mhr. weṭáwb ‘to tan leather’, Jib. eṭɔ́b ‘to tan leather’. In all probability, Arb. waṭb- ‘leather vesseľ is related as such vessels represent a prototypical object made of tanned skin in the traditional household of the region. Leslau (LS 57) may be right to further connect Arb. nṭb ‘to box someone’s ears’ as a variant root.
