root
etymology

Undoubtedly a causative transformation of PWS *wṣl ‘to come, to attain’, cf. Arb. wṣl (IV) ‘to make come, to bring, to deliver’. Diachronically, the present verb is, therefore, identical to ˀṣl ‘to help’.
