a. fɔ́ne έˀɛfo šin tóˀo tákɛn ẓ̂ayέfɛʰ yíken ḳíṣib e-di-báˁaḷ wa-di-bíˁaḷ ḥaʰ di-yeḳáṣab be-daráhɛm wa-ḥaʰ di-yeḳáṣab be-tímhɛr wa-ḥaʰ di-yeḳáṣab be-néšreʰ wa-be-di-ˀégze ‘In former times there was a custom among us – whenever there was a wedding feast, there was gift-offering to the groom and to the bride: some were granting money, some were granting date-palms, some were granting livestock, everybody according to his means’ (CSOL III 19:40)
b. ḥer aḷ-kin di-ˁad yeḳáṣab ˁar faḥre έˀɛfo yaˁágeb ḳéṣib aḷ-šébtet óti ken ḷáfi wa-keʰ ḳö́ṣabk e-ṭad faḥre yaˁágeb ḳéṣib ‘Few people are left today who would gift anything (of value) to others, but everybody is happy to receive such a gift, be he weak or strong (financially).
