The V-stem form with š < *k should have been borrowed from Arabic in Soqotri only recently (cf. the discussion under rbk). However, this verb is attested in continental MSA as an adapted loanword with the root rbš and the general meaning ‘to disturb, to confuse’: rebūš (ML:313), rɔ̄s̃ (JL:202), rebáš (HL:101), and their derivates. Thus, its absence in Soqotri, being by no means impossible, is peculiar. Even more unusual is that an adapted loanword ľirbók ‘to get spoiled (of food)’, which certainly belongs here as an intransitive exponent of the meaning ‘to disturb, to confuse’ (Cf. Datsemshift, no. 2625), displays no palatalisation. Besides, the meaning ‘to get spoiled (of food)’ is unattested elsewhere.
