semantic notes

‘To do something again (repetitive)’ (a, b)

‘To do something more (not exactly repeating the previous action but rather doing the next action in a chain of actions)’ (c)

The grammatical features of kánaḥ usually copy those of the main verb (a, b, c). In the following example, the grammatical subject of kánaḥ does not coincide with that of the main verb:

wa-kánaḥk ˁógiľ ḥe ˁag wa-ˁážeʰ wa-díˀʸhen ˁougénoʰ ‘And then I met a man, his wife and their daughter’ (CSOL II 12:9)

other notes

The verb appears mostly in preposition to the main verb, but the reverse word order is also possible:

wa-ḳaˁ kánaḥ díˀʸheʰ šégreʰ ‘And he started again to ask the riddle of his tree’ (CSOL II 4:15)
