In all probability, this substantive is the only Modern South Arabian reflex of the widely attested Semitic root *ˁrw ‘to be naked’, from which designations of (female) genitals have been produced in a variety of other Semitic languages (SED I No. 26). (Naumkin et al. 2016b:60)
