etymology
As persuasively argued by M. Bulakh (in Naumkin et al. 2019a:80), the Soqotri verb is to be compared to Arb. hwl ‘to scare’, Sab. hyl ‘fear’ with a fossilized t-stem prefix and the irregular, but easily conceivable, consonantal correspondence ˀ ~ h.
