íno ˁag šin ḥa di-gédaḥ tan di-saḳɔ́ṭri wa-ˀékob ke-ˁeyyúg iľ-ˁáḷho ḥa šin wa-tóˀo ľifˀós di-fέˀɛs ľhe ˁeyyúg iľ-ˁáḷho yeˁómer tóˁod diˀáḷ feľán kor yeṭáf ˁek wa-ˀáraḥ hey de wáṣeľ tóˀo ľáraḥ wáṣeľ diˀáḷ ˁag de dérhi yaˁámer súwa wa-yekoríšin ‘There was a man who came to our land, to Soqotra, and he insinuated himself with some high-ranking folk . (Local) people would approach these high-ranking folk (for assistance), but these people would respond: “Go to such-and-such, he’ll give you (whatever you need). And take him this letter of recommendation from us.” But whenever anybody brought the letter to the man, even though he’d say OK, he was really insincere’ (CSOL III 15:4)
